Richardson Hunting Knife with Hand Carved Deer on handle

Custom Outdoor Knives by Richardson A little history behind the knives... The main activity of the area where these knives are made was timber. Years ago the timber was cleared, a section at a time, with cross cut saws, then hewed into railroad ties with broad axes. They were then brought by team or floated downstream to a railhead. The maker of these knives is a retired horseshoer and blacksmith that began making knives out of these old cross cut saws for friends who were trappers, hunters, and fishermen. It was never anticipated these knives would become as popular as they did, so a few years ago, after cutting up several thousand of these old saws, the saws became very hard to find. Samples of the best of the old saws were then sent to several steel mills to be analyzed.

Eventually they came up with an exact metal which is 1085 Blue Tempered Spring Steel. Most customers feel it is superior to the old sawblade knives.

The handles are shed whitetail, muledeer, and elkhorn. In most cases the Animal is still roaming the wild growing another set of antlers for knife handles.
